Hatis Noit is a Japanese vocalist and composer, characterised by her unique use of vocal techniques. Her intricate vocal harmonies and layered textures, mostly using her voice only, or with sparse, minimal instrumentation, create an ethereal and deeply emotive soundscape. Hatis Noit’s unique musical journey was instigated by a teenage trip to a women’s temple, where she came across a female monk singing Buddhist chants, whose otherworldly sounds moved her so intensely that she was instantly aware of the visceral power of the human voice; how primal and instinctive of an instrument it can be. Noit’s powerful and critically acclaimed debut album Aura (2022) was described as “extraordinary” (Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC 6 Music) and “breathtaking” (Loud & Quiet).
