Abyss X, aka Evangelia VS, is a nomad woman of Cretan descent, whose drastic relocation from New York City to the island of Crete at the age of 7 she admits caused a slew of contradictions in her work. She has been a performance artist, dancer, director and video artist with an academic background in computer science and performance. She’s had many notable collaborators including Grammy-nominated producers Rabit and SOPHIE, Chinese pop futurist Rui Ho, and New York artist and poet Juliana Huxtable. Some of these collaborators have appeared at the festival Abyss X founded, Nature Loves Courage, an intimate festival based on the south-west coast of Crete, which embraces the nourishment of land and sea for the creative spirit.
